In the South Mediterranean region, there is little reliable information about the prevalence and trends in Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG). However, some studies about the real situation of women the magnitude of the problem and show alarming figures on VAWG. Advancing women’s rights and combating all forms of VAWG are priorities for Euro Mediterranean countries as stated in the 4th Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) Ministerial Declaration on “Strengthening the Role of Women in Society” (Cairo, 2017) and States are responsible for enacting and implementing laws and public policies to combat VAWG and ensure achieving gender equality.

تم إطلاق الحملة الإقليمية حول عدم التسامح مطلقاً مع العنف ضد النساء والفتيات في 2-3 ايار 2019 في عمّان ، الأردن في إطار مشروع "مكافحة العنف ضد النساء في منطقة جنوب البحر الأبيض المتوسط" ، بتمويل من الاتحاد الأوروبي. حضر المؤتمر الإقليمي ما يقارب 140 مشاركة ومشارك من 14 دولة في المنطقة الأورومتوسطية. حيث جمع المؤتمر ممثلات وممثلين عن الوزارات والمؤسسات والأحزاب السياسية ومنظمات المجتمع المدني ومنظمات المجتمع المحلي. وكان من بين الحضور برلمانيات وبرلمانيين وخبيرات وخبراء في النوع الإجتماعي والقانون بلإضافة الى الصحفيات والصحفيين والباحثات والباحثين

في اطار مشروع "مكافحة العنف ضد النساء في منطقة جنوب البحر الأبيض المتوسط" ، بتمويل من الإتحاد الأوروبي، تم عقد طاولة حوار إقليمية للخبراء حول مكافحة التمييز ضد النساء في التشريعات في 17 حزيران 2019 في بيروت، لبنان. جمعت المائدة المستديرة 26 مشترك/ة من الخبراء والخبيرات والباحثين/ات القانونيين/ات والنوع الإجتماعي من الجزائر ومصر والأردن ولبنان والمغرب وفلسطين وسوريا وتونس وفرنسا والسويد ، بالإضافة إلى ممثلين/ات عن مكتب وزير الدولة لشؤون لتمكين الاقتصادي للنساء و الشباب (EEWAY) و بعثة الاتحاد الأوروبي لدى الجمهورية اللبنانية.

اجتمع مائة وأربعة وخمسون مشارك ومشاركة من سبعة وثمانين منظمة مجتمع مدني ، إلى جانب صناع القرار والممثلين/ات الوزاريين/ات وخبراء وخبيرات النوع الإجتماعي والقانون ، فضلاً عن وسائل الإعلام من اثني عشر دولة من جنوب البحر المتوسط يومي 10 و 11 ديسمبر/ كانون الأول في تونس لحضور المنتدى الإقليمي حول مكافحة التمييز في التشريعات.
